Weighted blankets are used for a better sleep.  These are usually handled for Autistic children, people that move around a lot and have trouble sleeping; they are for a more restful sleep and relaxation.

There are a few different methods in making the best-weighted blanket. Depending on the individual’s special needs there are two options. The first option is to bring together two blankets. Using one or two favorite blankets. Sew them together, back to front or to the sides.  This decision is based on the length of the garment that is desired. After the blankets are sewed together then a pocket need to be placed on the backside. Create the pocket and sew it snugly to the blanket.

Once the pocket is fastened tightly to the material, put something heavy in the pocket.  Depending on how much weight is needed; flat clay, a plastic bag of sand or anything that can give the comfort level that is desired. To secure that the contents will not escape; proceed to close the pocket with a zipper, buttons or even Velcro.

Another option for making a weighted blanket is to take an old cover and add edges to 3 sides.  Take 6 pieces of cloth, two for each side and measure them for the length of the blanket. Sew one side of the cloth together and fill the pouch with sand, rice or beans. Sew the other side up then firmly attach it to the blanket, repeat this for 3 sides of the blanket. Make sure not to add one to the top of the blanket.
