How to make a whistle

There are a number of ways to make a whistle. Some are very complicated and others are rather simple. Whistle making can be a fun activity for children and even adults. Being creative with materials can formulate unlikely results.

A straw can be made into a small fun project. Usually this material can be found around the house. Items that are needed: Straw, tape, cardboard. First, take the straw and fold the end over a quarter of the length. Be absolutely sure that there is still a small opening. Take a piece of strong tape; masking tape, duct tape or electrical tape will do. Tape the quarter piece in place.

After that is in place, set it aside and cut a small piece of cardboard to fit around the front of the straw. Measure it exactly, and then place the cardboard around the straw snugly. Make sure the hole in the front of the straw is open but tiny. Once the board is in place firmly tape it to the straw. Then the project is ready to be tested.

Another way to make a whistle for fun is to pull a piece of long, green grass out of the ground. Then gently blow towards the middle and a sound will be heard. Be sure the grass is healthy and not dead, or the sound effect will not work.

Making a whistle can be a great project for anyone. Whistles can be designed out of household tools, woodcarvings, clay or any materials that can be acquired. With a little creativity and knowledge any item can be the start of a great whistle.
