Salmon is one of the easiest fish to prepare. It cooks very quickly and many enjoy it because it tastes less “fishy” than other fish dishes. Join us and we’ll show you how to make a delicious tasting salmon in no time.

You can purchase fresh salmon or previously frozen salmon. For health reasons, you’ll want to keep the salmon refrigerated until you ready to cook it. Salmon typically will have one side that still has the skin on it. You will generally want to cook the salmon with the skin still on because it is much easier to remove after the salmon is cooked.

The most popular way to cook salmon is under the broiler. You can prepare the salmon in the fashion you like, then place on broiler pan that has been covered in foil. Typically you will cook a salmon fillet for five minutes per half inch of thickness.

One popular broiler recipe is cover the salmon fillets in butter, a little garlic and some lemon pepper. Place them skin side down on the aluminum foil. They are done when the salmon starts to change color and easily flakes. The skin usually will peel off then you lift the fillet from the pan. If not, you can easily remove it with the side of a fork. Serve with some fresh lemon juice.

Many people like to cook salmon fillets on the grill. You will want to cook them over indirect heat, not directly over the flames as they will cook too quickly. Again, you’ll want to let the salmon cook for about five minutes per half inch of thickness. Turn salmon fillets over once while grilling.

You can also sauté salmon with a little oil in a non-stick skillet. You will want to set the temperature to medium-high. Start skin up, and then turn over once.

Another option is roasting salmon in the oven. Place a little bit of oil in a shallow baking pan. Place the salmon skin down in the pan. Cook at 450 degrees for five minutes per half inch of thickness.

Of course, you are not limited to just variety in the way you cook salmon. There are thousands of delicious ways to marinade and prepare salmon. Because of its mild taste, salmon tastes great in a large variety of dishes.
