There are many ways to make a turban, depending on the use or the tradition, if it is from a specific religion or culture, or if it is for other uses, like chemotherapy turbans.  They also vary, depending if it is for a woman or a man, or for kids.  In this case, the turban can be use by anyone, and doesn’t follow any specific tradition, but it is a basic form to make a turban.

The fabric for the turban should be around 2 1/2 yards long, (around 2 1/4 meters) and 2 ft. wide (around 50 centimeters).  The best fabrics for the turban are gauze and broadcloth. First, fold the fabric in half lengthwise, set the center point on your forehead and drape the ends of the fabric forward across your shoulders, as if you had 2 pigtails of fabric. Gather up the fabric on each side, holding it as close to your earlobes as possible, so you’ll have a cap on top of your head.  Twist both sides of fabric, not too tight or your turban will be too small, but not too loose or it will fall.

Pulling the two “pigtails” behind your neck, exchange sides and make the right one (originally) come over the left ear and left side over the right, cross in front and take to the back. Tie the ends like you would a shoestring and tuck them in the wraps. There, your turban is ready to go!
